A novella about redemption
Daylin Reece, a criminal from a backwater space station, finds himself marooned on an uninhabited planet after the penal ship carrying him hits a spatial rift and is flung across the galaxy. The sole survivor of the crash, Daylin is prepared to live out the rest of his days on the uncharted world, until one day an alien robot arrives to make him an offer. The ship it represents, a sentient starship named Seeker, serves as an ark for wayward species, and offers Daylin a spot within one of its domed cities.
Wanting to atone for his past, Daylin accepts Seeker's offer, and begins his second act aboard the ship as it roams the galaxy, looking to preserve other lifeforms. But Daylin soon begins to suspect that his new home might not be what it appears, and that Seeker has secrets of its own. A chance encounter with a hostile alien ship brings Seeker and Daylin to a crossroads, where they both have to learn to merge their pasts with an uncertain future, one filled with peril.
